Call for 125th Anniversary Book Contributions & Stories

Dear Members,

We are in the process of writing a book in celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the Cavallotti Lodge, which was founded on November 4, 1900, and has evolved into the organization we all continue to enjoy.

The book will account for the Cavallotti Lodge’s origins, and its rich history as a place to celebrate various aspects of Italian culture and community, where wine-making, recipe sharing, bocce, traditional card games like Tresette, music, dance, and revelry are fondly enjoyed with a proud sense of camaraderie.

We plan to include a collection of stories from you – our members -- as part of this book. These “Member Records” will highlight not only your involvement in the Cavallotti Lodge as a member, but any “special stories” that you may like to share.

We are inviting you to create a brief write-up about your own personal involvement with the Lodge. You also may want to include a brief history of family members who also were associated with the Cavallotti Lodge since its founding in 1900.

Here are some guidelines for what you can include:

● Names and Birth Years (or in some cases, years of passing) of family members who

were Cavallotti Lodge members

● When you joined as a member

● What motivated you to join as a member

● Any roles or responsibilities you have had or some of your contributions to the lodge

● Any special stories, memories, or highlights you’d like to share

You are also free to submit photos to help tell your narrative. We ask that you limit photos to no more than three. For your write-up, we ask that your contributions be no longer than 500 words, and submitted by no later than Friday, August 1 to be included in our book.

Please submit your typed story and any photos to iankcumpstone@hotmail.com. For those unable to provide a typed story, hand-written submissions will also be accepted. Then, our “History Committee” volunteers can help transcribe your writing into text. We will also scan your photos for the book.

It is important to note that these Member Records will be included in the book that will be publicly displayed via a website and available to the general public as a condition of the grant funding the Cavallotti Lodge has received from the Nanaimo Historical Society to produce this book. Please be aware of the public nature of this book when compiling your contribution.

Thank you for your contributions to the Cavallotti Lodge over the years. We look forward to ensuring your role with this organization is captured in posterity as we celebrate this milestone anniversary.

Sincerely,

Ian Cumpstone

President
